TUESDAY FOR TRASH
Tuesdays for Trash is an environmental movement founded on May 5th, 2020 by two youth activists in Oregon during the COVID-19 pandemic. They experienced difficulty feeling connected and finding ways to positively contribute to their communities, and even more a challenge of staying safe while doing so. But while dedicating spare time to clean up their University park blocks, they realized something. Picking up trash is a simple and safe way to practice environmental activism that anyone can do wherever they are. So together they launched the movement with the notion that small acts of change when multiplied can transform the world.
Trash is everywhere, it’s in every corner on every block in every country around the world. Even when we try to escape our urban communities into the outdoors we often find litter scattered around our favorite trails. But what if every time we passed or ran by a piece of trash, we picked it up?
Caring for our environment instead of ignoring the problem is the mission behind Run for the Planet, a worldwide annual event and fundraiser organized by international running group Dirtbag Runners and global movement Tuesdays for Trash.
WHEN & WHERE
On Saturday, September 17th, participants around the world will be joining together for a community led or individual run with the intention to pick up trash seen along their chosen route -- whether it be around their neighborhood, a trail or city streets. During the event, all participants are encouraged to stream, post, and discuss their findings on personal social media platforms while tagging @TuesdaysForTrash / @DirtbagRunners and using #RunForThePlanet to increase awareness about the issue. We can’t wait to see the changes made around the world and look forward to sharing the photos of our impact together!
OUR "WHY"
The event encourages individuals to become changemakers and take actions that promote a healthier home, not only for us humans but the wildlife and marine species that inhabit this Earth alongside us. This year’s event happens to take place on National and World Cleanup Day which we’re honored to be partnering with to create such a positive impact.
THE CAUSE
This year our fundraising aspect is also focusing on seabed cleanups to restore coral ecosystems in the mediterranean that have been damaged by trash. Donating $1 or more will enter you into a raffle to win a DBR x T4T surprise gift and certificate of support for our chosen charity! A donation of $45 or more will earn you a dedicated coral adoption with traceable coordinates in Spain certified by Coral Guardian! Please click the button below to enter :)
