PLOGGING / PLOGGA
Plogging is picking up litter/trash.
Erik Ahlström started plogging in Stockholm. He created the website Plogga.se to organise the activity and encourage volunteers.
Author David Sedaris combines litter picking with exercise in England, taking up to 60,000 steps a day in pursuit of local rubbish. He was so effective in keeping his neighbourhood clean that the local authority named a waste vehicle in his honour.
Keep America Beautiful promotes plogging to its affiliates and has found that some already combined exercise with clean up.
National CleanUp Day has partnered with Erik to promote plogging as a way to cleanup and keep the outdoors clean. We thank Erik for his dedication.
Plogging has evolved to mean picking up litter/trash. Featured in the Wall Street Journal, PBS, and by the Prime Minister of India. In 2019, an estimated 2,000,000 went plogging daily.
