Up Cycle
Our Mission
… to create a more environmentally conscious community through the removal and “upcycling” of discarded materials into solution-oriented products.
Our Story
We love the outdoors and we spend as much time as possible enjoying everything mother nature has to offer, but it doesn’t take long before being completely frustrated by the amount of trash we find on our hikes, especially plastic. So we decided to do something about this and organized trail and community clean-ups in our area. But after multiple trips to the landfills/recycling centers we thought there must be something better we can do about our plastic waste problem. So we asked ourselves…..”how can we give single-use plastic a long term-purpose?”
That’s when it hit us…..BUILDING MATERIALS. We plan to transform plastic waste into interlocking bricks. These bricks can be used to build just about anything but we will start locally with benches and picnic tables for our parks. And ultimately, providing emergency shelters for victims of natural disaster.
We recently had the opportunity to pitch our big idea at the Change Maker Challenge sponsored by the Horizon Foundation and United Way and though we had some tough competition we were able to pull it off and won first place & $25,000 to bring our idea to life!
